Asmara, 23 March 2016 – Rigorous efforts are underway in Foro subzone to increase school enrollment at various levels; especially in regard to female students.
Mr. Ismail Ali, Branch Head of the Ministry of Education in the sub zone underlined in a meeting of community members and elders that students’ enrollment in education has been increasing steadily at the elementary level. However, the increment remains still slow in junior schools.
Nomadic pattern of life, remoteness of schools as well as under-age marriages are the main impediments to high female enrollment at the higher levels of education. These obstacles can only be tackled with “the active involvement of all stakeholders: the administrative bodies; parents and society at large”, participants in the meeting emphasized.
