Keren, 19 April 2016- The effort that has been conducted for the last 8 years in the Anseba region to avoid harmful practices in general and that of FGM in particular has registered praiseworthy result. The comment was made at a meeting held in Keren from 14 to 15 April.
The Director General of the Social Services in the region Mr. Abdulahi Alamin Tita called on the public to reinforce participation for the overall eradication of the harmful practices in general and that of the FGM in particular from the region.
According to the study conducted in 2008 the prevalence of the harmful practices has been reduced from 25% to 2% and that the practice of FGM in the sub-zones of Habero and Asmat is totally avoided.
Likewise, the awareness raising programs are becoming effective and through that the pregnant mothers frequenting the health centers for checkup and delivery is increasing and that the prevalence of communicable diseases due to lack vaccines is at its lowest level.
The head of the administration and finance of the MOH branch in the region Zekarias Okbaselasie called on the sub-zone and area administrators to encourage the public reinforce participation in the efforts to avoid the harmful practices.
