Asmara, 25 April 2016 – In the commemoration of World Malaria Day held in Himbrti, central region, on 25 April 2016, it was disclosed that malaria cases in the central region have been reduced by 95%.
According to Mr. Meles Ghebreyesus, head of Malaria Control at the Health Ministry’s branch in the central region, the prevalence of malaria was highly seen in 1989 particularly in the eastern escarpment and in some areas of Gala-Nefhi, Berik, and Seregeka. Such scenarios have been controlled thanks to the mitigation measures taken in due time, Mr. Meles added.
Pointing out that Eritrea is among the countries that have made remarkable progress in malaria control, Mr. Habte Gebremeskel, Head of Education and Agitation office at the Ministry, expressed that commendable achievement has been registered with the introduction of necessary medicines and medical facilities.
