Berik sub-zone: Soil and Water conservation

The residents of 21 villages of Berik sub-zone, Central region, have carried out soil and water conservation activities before the inception of annual rain season.

Asmara, 26 April 2016- The residents of 21 villages of Berik sub-zone, Central region, have carried out soil and water conservation activities before the inception of annual rain season.

In the efforts being exerted to carry out soil and water conservation activities on 4,500 hectares of land, around 1,500 hectares have been terraced in about one month, according to Mr. Major Mengsteab, head of Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone.

In similar activities, around 70 hectares of land have been terraced in different mountainous areas of the sub-zone.

Meanwhile, the residents of Hazega, Adi-Kuntsi, and Ade-Beney have constructed around 3,600 M3 terraces aimed at controlling soil erosion.
