Vaccination coverage significantly increased

With the strong efforts exerted within the 25 years of Independence to ensure the health of the public, the children’s vaccination coverage in the Central region has increased from 20% to 95%.

Asmara, 27 April 2016- With the strong efforts exerted within the 25 years of Independence to ensure the health of the public, the children’s vaccination coverage in the Central region has increased from 20% to 95%.

The head of the MOH branch in the region, Dr. Tesfai Solomon indicated that currently nine types of vaccines are provided in different health centers in the region and that the prevalence of polio, measles and tetanus diseases are on the verge of eradication.

He further pointed out that with the rigorous campaigns conducted the public awareness has increased and that 67% of the pregnant women deliver in health centers and that has significantly contributed to the reduction of mortality during delivery.

Dr. Tesfai also said that the harmful practices including FGM and under age marriage has been extensively been reduced.

In the Central region there are 4 hospitals, 8 health center, 25 health stations and 45 clinics.
