Commendable achievement in health services

The head of the Ministry of Health branch in the Northern Red Sea region, Dr. Yohannes Tekeste disclosed that commendable achievements have been recorded in the overall health situation in the region thanks to the even distribution of the health services and the investments made in developing human resource.

Asmara, 09 May 2016 – The head of the Ministry of Health branch in the Northern Red Sea region, Dr. Yohannes Tekeste disclosed that commendable achievements have been recorded in the overall health situation in the region thanks to the even distribution of the health services and the investments made in developing human resource.

He indicated that about 60 health facilities ranging from a referral hospital to health centers and health stations are actively rendering services in the region.

Dr. Yohannes also said that the scope of vaccination campaigns that were previously limited to 10% are now at 90%, meaning that communicable diseases have dropped  significantly in the region. The prevalence of malaria has also decreased by 90% in the region compared to the previous years, he added.

In the Northern Red Sea region there are 11 clinics, 26 health stations, 11 community hospitals, 1 Referral Hospital and 2 mother and child health care units.
