The educational facilities put in place in the Gash Barka region over the past 25 years of Independence are providing equitable educational opportunity.
Barentu, 10 May 2016- The educational facilities put in place in the Gash Barka region over the past 25 years of Independence are providing equitable educational opportunity. The comment was made by the head of the MOE in the region, Mr. Mohammed-Ali Ibrahim.
He indicated that during the pre-independence years there were only 60 schools scattered in specific areas of the region, and with the huge investment over the years of independence 62 kindergartens, 252 elementary, 77 junior and 17 high schools were constructed and are providing services.
He reiterated that the school enrolment has increased from 12 thousand of pre-independence to 120 thousand. Moreover, 260 thousands of the residents of the region have become beneficiaries of adult education programs.
Mr. Mohammed also said that the residents of the region are significantly contributing in the construction of additional school rooms, supply of energy power, computer training as well as the well being of the teachers.
