Leap forward in Harnessing Marine Resources

The Head of the Fisheries Department at the Ministry of Marine Resources, Ambassador Tewoldebrhan Woldemicael indicated that basic infrastructure have been put in place to effectively make use of the marine resources.

Massawa, 09 May 2015- The Head of the Fisheries Department at the Ministry of Marine Resources, Ambassador Tewoldebrhan Woldemicael indicated that basic infrastructure have been put in place to effectively make use of the marine resources. He also said that much effort needs to be exerted to efficiently maximize the benefits from the marine resources.

The Ambassador explained that the issuance of proclamations pertaining to the management of Marine resources is among the initiatives taken as part of the efforts to efficiently harness the marine resources.

Emphasizing that jetties and processing plants that have been put in place in Massawa, Tio, Assab and Asmara are rendering efficient service,  the Ambassador Teweldebrhan explained that the jetties in Gelalo, Idi, Berasole, Irafayle and the Massawa International Air Port as well as the Massawa-Assab road are playing significant role in facilitating the distribution of fish.

Apart from the construction of jetties in different areas of the region, the construction of fish markets in Keren, Mendefera, Massawa and allocation of fish distributing vehicles are contributing to the provision of efficient service, he further said.

Since 2005 around 1300 graduates with degrees, diplomas and certificates from Massawa College of Marine Sciences have been deployed in different marine resources related work areas.
