Training to Augment Honey Production

Training program on bee farming was organized for about 300 farmers in Senafe sub-zone.

 

Mendefera, 25 May 2016 –Training program on bee farming was organized for about 300 farmers in Senafe sub-zone. The training program was aimed at augmenting honey production in the sub-zone.

The training course which was jointly provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Association of bee farmers in the sub-zone was mainly about modern bee keeping practices including preparation of wax, making bee hives and the safety of  honeybees.

Mr. Fikre Meles, expert on bee farming, said that the theoretical and practical training had been provided for the farmers aimed at upgrading the know how on bee farmers so as to increase honey production and to ultimately improve the living standards of the farmers.

Pointing out that bee farming is a lucrative business which only demands minimal investment, Mr. Hizkeyas Whbet, Administrator of Senafe sub-zone, commended the progress the association has made in honey production.

The trainees on their part expressed satisfaction for the training they were provided and called for its sustainability.

Established in 2015, the association of bee farmers in Senafe sub-zone has 80 members.
