Training for artisan fishers

The Ministry of Marine Resources, in partnership with Anberbeb Share Company, Massawa Salt Processing Plant and that of Fiber Glass provided three-month training for artisanal fishers on boat maintenance.

Asmara, 10 June 2016-  The Ministry of Marine Resources, in partnership with Anberbeb Share Company, Massawa Salt Processing Plant and that of Fiber Glass provided three-month training for artisanal fishers on boat maintenance.

The trainees comprised 13 artisan fishermen from the Northern Red Sea region and four members of the Ministry of Marine Resources.

The Director General of the Fisheries Resource Department in the Ministry, Ambassador Tewoldebrhan Woldemicael, explained that the training aims at developing the capacity of artisan fishermen and members of the Ministry of Marine Resources, apart from ensuring the supply of fish at fair price.

The Minister of Marine Resources, Mr. Tewolde Kelati, on his part noted that the artisan fishermen are demonstrating improved skill in their daily activities and called on them to transfer the knowledge they have acquired to other compatriots.

More than 570 artisan fishermen received similar training in 2014.
