Praiseworthy development programs in Southern Red Sea region

In the past six months, praiseworthy development programs have been implemented in the Southern Red Sea region with the strong participation of the public. This was disclosed at an assessment meeting conducted in the port city of Assab on 23 June.

Asmara, 24 June 2016 –  In the past six months, praiseworthy development programs have been implemented in the Southern Red Sea region with the strong participation of the public. This was disclosed at an assessment meeting conducted in the port city of Assab on 23 June.

Heads of line ministries, the PFDJ and representatives of the sub-zones took part in the meeting during which accomplishment reports on educational and health services, trade activities, fishing and agricultural activities were presented.

The reports noted that with the good rainfall in the past six months, 20 thousand quintals of animal feed and 2 thousand quintals of sorghum as well as 2,200 quintals of fruits  and vegetables were produced.

Moreover, a micro dam with the capacity of holding 28 thousand cubic metres of water was constructed, and 30 thousand chickens were distributed to a total of 1,800 families.

As regards health and educational services, it was noted that sustainable awareness raising campaigns were conducted. Moreover, student enrolment in schools is on the rise.

The Managing Director in the region, Ambassador Mohammed- Ali Mantai called on the meeting participants to play due role in encouraging female students to attend school and reinforce participation in the development programs thus mapped out.
