Effort to extend professional expertise contribution to augment agricultural sector

The director of the Human Resources Development at the Agriculture Ministry, Mr. Abraha Gebremeskel disclosed that effort is being exerted to develop the contribution of professional expertise to augment the agricultural sector.

 

Asmara, 16 August 2016- The director of the Human Resources Development at the Agriculture Ministry, Mr. Abraha Gebremeskel disclosed that effort is being exerted to develop the contribution of professional expertise to augment the agricultural sector.

He further indicated that ensuring food security is the priority task of the ministry and to that effect training and professional advice is being provided to farmers in all the regions to the sub-zonal level. The training programs include livestock resources, seeds development, natural resources management, agricultural and financial management, agricultural development, livestock high breeding, water and soil conservation as well as fruits and vegetables cultivation. Every year an assessment and research is conducted on the progress of the activities, according to Mr. Abraha.

With regards the contribution of the Hamelmalo College of Agriculture, Mr. Abraha said that the college is significantly contributing in the development of modern agriculture by producing the required human resources both in quantity and quality.

According to the documents from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Human Resources Development branch, over the past 25 years have provided training abroad for 17,600 of its staff members and for 2761 inside the country and around 315 thousand farmers were provided short term training.
