Water and soil conservation popular campaign as well as road renovation activities are being conducted in Mendefera subzone through a coordinated effort of the public and members of the Popular Force.

Mendefera, 06 October 2017- Water and soil conservation popular campaign as well as road renovation activities are being conducted in Mendefera subzone through a coordinated effort of the public and members of the Popular Force.

The residents of the 15 administrative areas of the Mendefera sub zone have been conducting the water and soil conservation as well as road renovation activities two days a week since March of 2017.

Mr. Mokonnen Fesehaye, water and soil conservation expert at the Ministry of Agriculture branch in the sub-zone said that so far 23 km of terraces and 4000 meter cube water diversion schemes have been constructed, and 18 km of dirt road and 45 km of terraces have been renovated.

Indicating that the activities so far accomplished have significant contribution in boosting agricultural production as well as in alleviating the existed transportation problem, the coordinators of the program and agricultural experts involving at the work reiterated that the popular campaign will sustainably continue in greater pace.

In the same vein, Mr. Mohammed-Kiyar Beshir, head of law and order in the sub-zone, pointed out that the due follow up is being conducted on the safety of the tree seedlings planted in the streets of Mendefera town and are in good condition.
