Asmara, 04 January 2018- The Ministry of Local Government conducted a meeting regarding activity assessment of 2017 and the programs mapped out for 2018.
At the meeting that was held on 3 and 4 January here in the capital Asmara, Governors of the six regions presented detailed reports of the programs charted out for 2017 vis-à-vis their implementation, challenges encountered and the participation of the public.
According to the reports presented the implemented programs in 2017 include, conducting detailed research of land management and allocation up to village level, farmland preparation for cultivation, land disputes management, village regroupings, forestry and wild animals protection, vegetables and fruits development, elections of area administrators and managing directors as well as strengthening the role of administrations in redressing the environment among others.
Indicating that 2017 was springboard for the second quarter of post independence period, the Minister of Local Government, Mr. Woldemicael Abraha said that initiatives have been taken to establish development zones and mapping out big development programs with a view to improve the livelihoods of citizens and that will continue on enhanced manner.
Regarding the development programs for 2018, Minister Woldemicael said that conducting pertinent study on development programs and bringing tangible solutions, working for the success of charted out development endeavors, village regroupings, putting in place social service provision institutions, development of irrigation farming and strengthening water management as well as controlling illegal trade are some of the programs charted out for 2018.
