Asmara, 23 April 2018 – Eritreans and group of surgeons from Germany are conducting surgeries at the Orotta Referral Hospital for children aged from 12-14 with cardiac problem.
Speaking to Erina, the head of Pediatrics, Prof. Tsegereda Gebrehiwet indicated that no cardiac surgeries were provided in Eritrea before 2002 and that patients were referred to go abroad for treatment and that was a big burned for the children and their families. In the past 15 years or more however through the program the Ministry of Health in cooperation with German doctors initiated, cardiac surgeries are being conducted four times a year. So far, Prof. Tsegereda said that cardiac surgeries have been conducted on about 1600 children free of charge.
Stating that tonsil can cause heart diseases called on parents to be vigilant on the health of their children, Prof. Tsegereda commended the National Blood Transfusion Center and the National Association of Voluntary Blood Donors for the support they made for the success of the surgeries.
The cardiac surgery will continue until 28 April at the Orotta Referral Hospital.
