Medefera, 28 April 2018- A workshop on identifying man made calamities and ways and means of controlling them was conducted on 27 April in Mendefera.
At the workshop in which heads of departments of the region and the Front as well as heads of national associations took part, Prof. Gebrebrhan Okbazghi, geology expert, said that early preparation has significant contribution in minimizing the occurrence of man-made calamities. Prf. Gebrabrhan also said that the establishment of early warning information system will have significant contribution in identifying the causes of the calamities and to address them.
Indicating that deforestation, environmental pollution, infrastructure building without proper study are among the main causes for man-made calamities, Prf. Gebrebrhan called for integrated efforts on the part of the concerned bodies for minimizing the incidents.
Soil erosion, heavy rain accompanied with storms and frost, deforestation and flooding are among the main causes for the occurrences of man made calamities in the Southern region.
