Effective forestation activities

Asmara, 11 August 2018 – Commendable forestation campaign in which the administration of the Central region organized is being conducted with enhanced poplar participation, Mr. Hailemicael Eyob, D.G. of the Department of Agriculture stated.

In his report to Erina, Mr. Hailemicael said that over one million and 200 thousand tree seedlings have been planted since the launch of the forestation program by the end of 2017. Mr. Hailemicael also noted that the once garbage collection area around Bete-Gergish have been forested.

Mr. Abraham Teklu, representative of the Forest and Wild Animals Authority on his part underscored that 82% of the 1.5 million tree seedlings that are prepared for this year have been planted. He further stated that in 70 hectares of land in the 16 sub zones of the Central region, over 276km long terraces and 155 cubic meters of water diversion schemes have been constructed.

Reports indicate that around 40 thousand nationals and several heavy and light vehicles participated at the soil and water conservation activities being conducted with the view of increasing production and productivity.
