Keren, 03 September 2018- A workshop on fresh water fish farming and use of fish in daily diet was organized on 28 and 30 August in the Anseba region.
The objective of the workshop organized for the public residing around the dams of Musha and Elabered was to encourage them to engage in fresh water fish farming activities in their areas and introduce fish in their day to day diet.
At the workshop it was reported that fresh water fish can be farmed in an environment with 20-30 degree centigrade and that the Anseba region is suitable for developing the farming.
Fresh water fish farming expert in the region, Mr. Solomon Bereketeab stated that research was conducted in 18 dams of the region and that fish is being farmed at the dams of Hashferay, Halhal, Musha, Sharki, Shieb-Seleba, Gerbichuk, Wara, Deki-Zeriu, Deki-Gebru as well as at three big dams in Elabered real estate.
The head of Marine Resources branch in the region, Mr. Mehari Habtegergish on his part called on the public to develop fresh water fish farming in their areas and reminded them to take utmost care in protecting their dams from pollution and silt.
Finally, the office of Marine Resources in Anseb region indicated that training on fishing skill and fishing equipments have been provided to the communities in those areas.
