Meeting of Presidents Isaias Afwerki and Ismail Omar Guelleh

At a meeting held on 17 September in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, President Isaias Afwerki and President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti agreed to establish a new chapter of cooperation and good neighborliness.

Asmara, 18 September 2018- At a meeting held on 17 September in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, President Isaias Afwerki and President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti agreed to establish a new chapter of cooperation and good neighborliness.

The two leaders also expressed gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz for the important contribution they made.

At a press conference held after the meeting, the Saudi Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir congratulated the two countries.

The Eritrean Foreign Minister, Mr. Osman Saleh and his Djiboutian counterpart, Mr. Mohammed Ali Youssouf indicated that the two countries have established a new era of friendship and cooperation and thanked the contribution of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The leaders of Ethiopia and Somalia have immensely contributed in restoring the relation between Eritrea and Djibouti.

It is to be recalled that a joint committee comprising the Foreign Ministers of Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia met President Ismail Omar Guelleh in Djibouti on 6 September.
