Seminar on prevention of communicable diseases

The Commission of Culture and Sports in cooperation with the Ministry of Health branch in the Central region organized a seminar for youth engaged in cultural and sports activities focusing on prevention of communicable diseases in general and that of HIV/AIDS in particular.

Asmara, 22 September 2018- The Commission of Culture and Sports in cooperation with the Ministry of Health branch in the Central region organized a seminar for youth engaged in cultural and sports activities focusing on prevention of communicable diseases in general and that of HIV/AIDS in particular.

At the seminar that was conducted on 18 September, briefings accompanied by statistical information and video shows were provided on the current situation of communicable diseases and the efforts being exerted at national level to control their prevalence.

The coordinator of communicable diseases prevention at the Ministry of Health branch in the region, Mr. Mehari Woldemicael indicated that owing to the rigorous efforts exerted to raise the awareness of the public the prevalence of communicable diseases has significantly been reduced and that strong effort is being made to reduce their occurrence by 90% in accordance with the global goal 2030.

Mr. Mehari also called on the youth to increase awareness on the causes and consequences of communicable diseases and strengthen participation in the effort to prevent them.
