The National Association of the Eritrean War Disabled Veterans has today, 17 October commemorated its Silver Jubilee of its establishment at the Asmara Palace Hotel.
Asmara, 17 October 2018 – The National Association of the Eritrean War Disabled Veterans has today, 17 October commemorated its Silver Jubilee of its establishment at the Asmara Palace Hotel.
At the event in which ministers, higher Government and PFDJ officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps, members of the Association and invited guests took part, Ms. Luul Gebreab, Minister of Labor and Human Welfare, indicated that the National Democratic Program designed at the 1st Organizational Congress of the EPLF in 1977 included rehabilitation of war disabled veterans and their families and that attests to the far sightedness and astuteness of the organization.
Ms. Luul went on to say that the Government of Eritrea has been exerting strong effort to create opportunities to enable war disabled veterans become self-supportive and productive members of the society.
The Chairman of the association, Mr. Gebrebrhan Eyasu said that the association has been working in collaboration with the Government and stakeholders to rehabilitate war disabled veterans with income generation schemes and that the question of the war disabled veterans is not to be left to the Government only and called on the public to shoulder the responsibility.
At the event, research papers on “Employment and Socio-Economic Situation of War Veterans” and “Transformation and Integration of War Disabled Veterans” were presented by Dr. Giorgis Tekle and Prof. Abebe Kileyesus from the College of Adi-Keih College of Business and Social Science.
The participants called for due attention to the war disabled veterans in the construction of buildings and institutions as well as free of charge of transportation and medical services.
Established in 1993, the National Association of the Eritrean War Disabled Veterans comprises over 18 thousand members.
