Keren, 03 December 2018 – World AIDS Day was observed on 1 December at a national level in Keren city under the theme: “Know your status”.
Speaking at the event, in which Ms. Amna Nurhussien, Minister of Health, senior Government and PFDJ officials, heads of UN institutions in Eritrea, as well as other invited guests took part, the D.G. of Public Health in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Andeberhan Tesfatsion indicated that encouraging result is being achieved owing to the coordinated effort exerted to combat the prevalence of HIV/AIDS.
Dr. Andeberhan further said even though the Ministry of health is working with its partners to curb the prevalence rate of the disease still remain more challenges to combat and prevent new infections.
Dr. Araia Berhane, head of Communicable Diseases Control on his part gave briefing on the causes and effects of HIV/AIDS and the situation of anti retroviral drugs in Eritrea.
Commending the endeavors being exerted in combating HIV/AIDS, and underlining the difficulty of minimizing the prevalence rate of the disease to its lowest level, the representative of United National Population Fund (UNFPA) Mr. Ibrahim Sambuli called on the coordinated effort of all concerned parties to that end.
Representative of WHO in Eritrea, Dr. Josephine Namboze on her part commending Eritrea’s effort in preventing the disease, expressed WHO’s readiness to support the people and Government of Eritrea in all their endeavors.
World AIDS Day was commemorated for the 27th time here in Eritrea.
