Asmara, 14 December 2018 – Fifth Annual Pharmacovigilance Conference focusing on adverse drug reactions (ADR) held from 13-14 December at the NCEW Hall under the theme “Every Report Counts: Vigilance Saves Lives!” concluded adopting various recommendations.
A number of research papers on range of issues pertaining to adverse drug reactions particularly on the side effects of anti-malaria and anti-TB pills and other septic diseases among others were presented during the conference in which health representatives from all over the country took part.
Speaking at the occasion, the Director of the National Medicine and Food Administration at the Ministry of Health, Mr. Iyasu Bahta said that owing to the interest and cooperation on the part of health professionals as well as sustained information exchange on adverse drug reactions and side effects, Eritrea has registered significant achievement in drug regulatory actions.
Mr. Mulugeta Russom, head of Eritrean Pharmacovigilance Center, pointed out that the Center began its operations in 2012 and has achieved commendable success in its short period of time.
According to report, Eritrea stands first in Africa regarding drug surveillance and control activities as well as regulatory excellence and case report documentation and information exchange activities.
