SRS: Annual activity assessment meeting

The Southern Red Sea region conducted its annual activity assessment meeting on 26 and 27 December in the port city of Assab.

Assab, 27 December 2018- The Southern Red Sea region conducted its annual activity assessment meeting on 26 and 27 December in the port city of Assab.

At the meeting activity reports of 2018 were presented by concerned officials on the implementation of social, economic and development programs vis-à-vis strengths and challenges encountered.

According to the reports, 580 thousand hectare farm land has been cultivated with various crops and that bumper harvest has been collected, vegetables and fruits have been cultivated on 100 hectares of land and 9 thousand quintals has been collected as well as 1400 quintals of animal fodder.

Traditional fishermen have been provided with modern fishing and a good result has been registered.

More over, various activities have been implemented including expansion and maintenance of water projects, cultural and sports activities, elections of area administrators, managing directors and village coordinators among others.

Indicating that commendable activities have been conducted through strong participation of the residents, Ambassador Mohammed-Seid Mantay, Governor of the Southern Red Sea region, called for integrated efforts for better outcome.

Ambassador Mohammed-Seid also said that expansion of water projects, development of educational and health provisions, improvement of livelihoods of the public are among development programs for 2019.
