Seminar on preserving community based values

Assab, 28 December 2018- Ms. Fauzia Hashim, Minister of justice conducted seminar on 27 December in the port city of Assab focusing on preserving community based values.

Indicating that the public has a system of resolving issues based on cultural and social values, Minister Fauzia said that in 2003 community magistrates were established under the proclamation No. 132, and the mandate of the community magistrates was classified under the proclamation No. 167 issued in 2012 and as a result the public was able to receive legal service in its vicinity.

Ms. Fauzia pointed out that legal process has four pillars of justice including the provision of open, equitable, timely and efficient as well as free and accountable legal service to the public.

Minister Fauzia went on to say that the national law takes into account the socio-economic, political, cultural and historical foundation of the society, and called on all concerned government and public institutions and the public to give due attentions for their implementation.

In the Southern Red Sea region there are eight community magistrates and 24 judges including 8 women.

The participants conducted extensive discussion on the report presented and the efforts that should be undertaken to strengthen community magistrates.
