Asmara, 08 February 2019- At an activity assessment meeting conducted on 7 February, it was reported that effort is being exerted in cooperation with partners to implement the program of ensuring community based health care service until 2020.
At the meeting in which the Ms. Amina Nurhussen, Minister of Health, and the Governor of the Central region, Maj. Gen. Romodan Osman Awoliay took part, the head of the Ministry of Health branch in the region, Dr. Tesfai Solomon indicated that praiseworthy activities have been conducted in 2018 including the successful implementation of measles and rubella vaccination as well as distribution of Vitamin A in which over 99% children were vaccinated.
According to the report presented at the meeting, in the Central region there are 16 health facilities providing delivery service and that the morality rate during delivery has significantly been reduced.
The participants conducted extensive discussion on the report presented and adopted recommendations including alleviating the shortage of medicines and ambulances, strong measures for preventing harmful practices, as well as for conducting awareness raising program on the importance of popular environmental sanitation activities.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Amina Nurhussen, Minister of Health, pointed out that integrated effort will be exerted to meet the Sustainable Development Goals. Minister Amina also said that there is plan to provide health service provision to remote areas of the country through mobile clinics.
