The International Day of Blood Donors, 14 June, was observed under the theme “Safe Blood for All” at a ceremony conducted at the Municipality Hall.
Asmara, 15 June 2019- The International Day of Blood Donors, 14 June, was observed under the theme “Safe Blood for All” at a ceremony conducted at the Municipality Hall.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Berhane Gebretensae, D. G. of Health Service at the Ministry of Health, said that supply of safe blood means saving and ensuring the continuity of life and that strong effort has been exerted to ensure the supply of blood nationwide.
Indicating that commendable effort has been conducted to inculcate the culture of blood donation, Mr. Berhane expressed appreciation to the National Blood Donors’ Association for their contribution.
Representing the World Health Organization, Dr. Yohannes Gebrat said that the yearly observance of the International Blood Donors’ Day has significant contribution in developing the awareness of the society on the importance voluntary blood donation.
Commending those that are voluntarily donating and saving lives, Mr. Samson Gebreselasie, Chairman of the National Blood Donors Association, said that donating blood beyond saving lives gives spiritual satisfaction.
The event was highlighted by various programs depicting the International Blood Donation Day.
