Successful activity in combating desert locust invasion

Successful campaign aimed at putting under control the desert locust invasion was exerted in Araeta sub zone, report indicated. The comment was made at an activity assessment meeting recently conducted in the sub zone.

Massawa, 02 April 2020 – Successful campaign aimed at putting under control the desert locust invasion was exerted in Araeta sub zone, report indicated. The comment was made at an activity assessment meeting recently conducted in the sub zone.

At the meeting in which agriculture experts, army officers and area administrators of the Araeta sub zone participated, Mr. Tesfit Gebrezgiabher, head of Seed Development at the Ministry of Agriculture branch in the sub zone, pointing out that combating the locust swarm invasion is an ongoing activity in Eritrea, indicated that ample rainfall season in the region has created conducive reproduction atmosphere for the locust and other pests.

Mr. Tesfit further stated that thanks to the integrated response by the Ministry of Agriculture, administrations in the sub-zone as well as the public and members of the Defense Forces, desert locust swarm invasion from neighboring countries was put under control before inflicting damage on grazing areas and trees. He also commended all stakeholders for their strong participation.

Mr. Mahmmud Abdela, managing director of Araeta sub zone, on his part commended the Ministry of Agriculture and its staff members for the swift response measures and coordination effort in putting the locust swarm invasion under control.
