Commendable transportation service

Documents of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications indicate that in the past 29 years of independence with the huge investment made commendable transportation services have been put in place throughout the country.

Asmara, 23 May 2020- Documents of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications indicate that in the past 29 years of independence with the huge investment made commendable transportation services have been put in place throughout the country.

Indicating that prior to independence there were only 23 transportation routes across the country, the document reveals that currently there are about 300 transportation routes and the number buses providing transportation service has increased to about 2 thousand and 700.

Pointing out that over 1 thousand and 900 villages have become beneficiaries of the transportation service, the document indicates that 85% of the population across the country has become beneficiaries.

Regarding transportation service in major cities, there are over 1600 taxis, min-buses and buses providing transportation service in the cities of Assab, Mendefera, Keren, Tesenei, Barentu and Massawa, the document added.

The number of heavy trucks that was about 270 has now increased to over 15 thousand and air and sea transport as well as internet service is growing from time to time.
