Asmara, 01 August 2020- The effort to expand eye treatment service in the Southern Red Sea region is registering encouraging result.
According to Nurse Gebre Hailemicael, cataract surgery expert at the Assab Hospital, the hospital is performing cataract and other minor surgeries and so far a number of patients have become beneficiaries.
Nurse Gebre went on to say that the number of patients that received eye treatment has increased by 100% compared to that of previous year and cataract surgery has been conducted on 60% on them.
Nurse Gebre stated that the public awareness regarding health service has reached satisfactory stage and reminded the public to avoid harmful practices that could lead to eye blindness.
According to Nurse Gebre, awareness raising program has been organized in which over 11 thousand students took part and eye glasses was provided to 89 students that were found with eye problem.
