Locust infestation put under control

Assab, 25 January 2021 – Desert locust swarm invasion that appeared in Bihta area, South Denkalia on 22 January was put under control through concerted measures by professionals, EDF units, administration and residents.

According to report from the Ministry of Agriculture branch in the Southern Red Sea Region, the locust swarm that came across the border from Ethiopia was stretched over 20 hectares and was put under control before inflicting any damage to vegetation. Eight drug spraying automobiles were involved in the control measure, the report added.

In related news, similar measures are being exerted to put under control a band of roaming desert locusts in and around Mabra, Asebuy and Awrae, Central Denkalia sub zone.
