Mendefera, 07 May 2023 – In continuation of its journey in the Southern Region, the Independence Cup containing sacred soil toured six sub-zones of the region.
The Independence Cup which commenced its journey in the Southern Region on 7 May, has so far toured several cities and towns of the region in Adi-Keih, Serha, Senafe, Tserona, Mai-Aini, and Segeneyti sub-zones.
Upon reaching Adi-Keih, Serha, and Senafe sub-zones, the Independence Cup was accorded a warm welcome by residents and members of the Defense Forces featuring cultural and artistic performances and a military march.
According to the report, the Independence Cup toured the historical Zalambesa Front, In Senafe sub-zone.
In the Tserona sub-zone, the Independence Cup containing sacred soil also toured yesterday, 8 May the Terona Front particularly Egri Mekel where heavy fighting was conducted in March 1999 against the invading armies of the Weyane regime.
Speaking at the Ceremony, Col. Tesfatsion Tsege delivered an in-depth history of the heavy fighting conducted from 14-16 May 1999 in the area as well as the heroic feat Warsay-Yikealo demonstrated at the place.
The Independence Cup was also accorded a warm welcome by administrators, residents, and members of the Eritrean Defense Forces in the May-Aini and Segeneyti sub-zones.
The Independence Cup containing sacred soil toured today Dekemhare, Dubarwa, and Mendefera sub-zones.
Upon reaching the Afelba-Dekemhare fronts, the Independence Cup was accorded a warm welcome. Speaking at the ceremony, the Commander of Central Command, Brig. Gen. Tekle Kiflay put on the Cup a sack of sacred soil collected from the historical trenches of Dekemhare, Egri-mekel, Adi-begio, and Alitena.
After that, the Independence Cup visited Dubarwa sub-one, which received a warm welcome ceremony.
The report indicated that the Independence Cup has reached Mendefera City and was accorded a warm welcome. It will resume its journey tomorrow to Emni-Haili, Adi-Kuala, and Mai-Mine sub-zones.
