Conference on Upgrading All-round Competence of Garages Conducted

A conference held yesterday at the National Chamber of Commerce Hall stressed the need for garages in the country to make all-round improvement in their mode of operation.

Asmara, 16 June 2010 – A conference held yesterday at the National Chamber of Commerce Hall stressed the need for garages in the country to make all-round improvement in their mode of operation.

Speaking at the conference, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr. Woldenkiel Abraha, noted that garages have a vital role to play in ensuring the safety of vehicles, especially passengers and property.  He further indicated that plans have already been mapped out towards upgrading their methodology. In this regard, Mr. Woldenkiel called on owners of garages to make due contribution to this end.

The director general of land transport department, Ms. Senait Lijam, said on her part that coordinated endeavors are imperative towards transforming garages which are becoming a concern.

A task force that conducted extensive study since 2006 as regards the issue presented a report highlighting the shortcomings of garage both in material and manpower. 

Following discussion on the report, the participants of the meeting adopted a number of resolutions and recommendations aimed at improving the competence of garages.
