Members of the farming community in Laelai-Gash have accomplished over 80% of agricultural tasks thanks to the existing good distribution and amount of rainfall in the area that continues to shower beginning mid June. Laelai-Gash, 2 August 2010 – Members of the farming community in Laelai-Gash have accomplished over 80% of agricultural tasks thanks to the existing good distribution and amount of rainfall in the area that continues to shower beginning mid June.

The head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, Mr. Negasi Habtemichael, indicated that there exists commendable rainfall in the sub-zone, and that the majority of the farmlands have been put under cultivation as the farmers made the necessary preparation on time.  He went on to say that government garage tractors deployed in the extensive plains of the sub-zone are performing effective activities.

Meanwhile, over 110,000 cattle in the sub-zone have received vaccines in accordance with the plan mapped out by the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone. Reports also indicated that soil and water conservation activities are gaining momentum through active popular participation, while two water reservoirs have been constructed which are making due contribution in providing potable water supply to the inhabitants along with their livestock.
