Asmara, 21 January 2011 – ERI-TEL has laid solid groundwork for expanding network connection to higher level, as part of the first phase task accomplished over the past two years, according to Eng. Tekle Woldeslasie, head of trade branch in the institutions.

He stated that in the first phase project, ERI-TEL has fully renewed network connections, in addition to completely changing transmitters. Additional stations have also been put in place so as to ease congestion in mobile phone line in Asmara, Keren, Mendefera, Massawa and others, Eng. Tekle added.

Moreover, he explained that 7 new telephone stations have been installed around Merhano, Tsaeda Kristian, Arbaete Asmera, Bisha, Foro and Massawa so as to accommodate more customers. Mr. Tekle further noted that 3rd network generation has been transformed in a limited capacity in some areas with a view to upgrading data and internet services, and that the process would continue in an enhanced manner. In this connection, he indicated that nationals living in a number of remote areas have already got access to fixed and mobile phone service.

Also in line with efforts to improve international calls, the capacity has been improved through reaching understating with foreign telecommunication companies. Study is also underway to fully expand mobile network across the nation, Mr. Tekle added.
