Implementation of drip irrigation infrastructure in Sememo progressing well

The putting in place of infrastructure facilities in a bid to promote drip irrigation farming on about 80 hectares below the Sememo micro-dam in Adi-Quala sub-zone is progressing well, according to Eng. Simon Abraha, expert in soil and water conservation in the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Southern region.
Adi-Quala, 5 February 2011 – The putting in place of infrastructure facilities in a bid to promote drip irrigation farming on about 80 hectares below the Sememo micro-dam in Adi-Quala sub-zone is progressing well, according to Eng. Simon Abraha, expert in soil and water conservation in the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Southern region.

He indicated that efforts are being exerted to put land plots below the micro-dam  under cultivation through modern irrigation system. In this connection, he explained that the drip irrigation system introduced in Dirko and Geza-Keren for experimental purpose has borne fruitful outcome.

Eng. Simon further stated that the infrastructure being put in place in Sememo micro-dam at an expenditure of 10 million Nakfa is being undertaken through local experts. Its contribution in boosting output and achieving food security is not to be viewed lightly, he added.

Likewise, preparations to cultivate 20 hectares below Adi-Bahro micro-dam through drip irrigation have been finalized and would soon proceed to implementation, Eng. Simon elaborated.
