Sports competition underway to add color to Operation Fenkil anniversary

As part of preparations to commemorate the 21st anniversary of Operation Fenkil, the Sport Commission in Northern Red Sea region began conducting various sport competitions, according to Mr. Hisabu Gebreslasie, head of the commission. Massawa, 7 February 2011 – As part of preparations to commemorate the 21st anniversary of Operation Fenkil, the Sport Commission in Northern Red Sea region began conducting various sport competitions, according to Mr. Hisabu Gebreslasie, head of the commission.

He stated that the competitions would be held at the regional and sub-zonal levels, as well as with the collaboration of the Defense Ministry. It includes football and volleyball along the beach, cycling, volleyball and camel race, as well as sport competition among the Disabled.

Meanwhile, foot-sal which is the first of its kind in the country would be conducted so as to give added color to the commemorative events.

In a related report, former Eritrean cyclist Daniel Fisehaye who currently lives in the US donated trophies for the 5th time that would be awarded to those who demonstrate excellence in sport competition on the occasion of the anniversary. Mr. Hisabu commended the initiative taken by the national every year.  He also said that guests from Kuwait would arrive to observe the camel race.
