Abundant rainfall reported in major parts of South-western Gash-Barka and the Southern region

Abundant rainfall has been reported in major parts of south-western Gash-Barka and the Southern region last month, according to the metrology unit. Barentu, 11 August 2011 – Abundant rainfall has been reported in major parts of south-western Gash-Barka and the Southern region last month, according to the metrology unit.

The head of metrology unit in the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Mr. Isak Fisiha, explained that though the amount of rainfall in July varied from one place to another, the highest range of rainfall registered stood at 185mm.

Pointing out that the amount of rainfall obtained this year is less than that of 2010 , he indicated that sporadic rainfall in the months of May and June in the Southern region made positive impact on this summer season, in addition to facilitating agricultural activities.
Mr. Isak further indicated that Eritrea possesses four tropical seasons, and that the summer season has a great role to play in endeavors to achieve food security.
