Southern region: Measures taken to prevent cutting of trees bear fruitful outcome

The head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch office in the region, Mr. Bahta Tedros, said on his part that over 11,000 hectares have been designated through geographic information system, and that it would be raised to 25 hectares in the near future. He added that employees have been recruited to oversee the reserve land.

Mr. Bahta further pointed out that the endeavor is aimed at preventing the cutting of trees, enhance biodiversity and raise public awareness in general. He emphasized the significance of active role of all government institutions to attain the set goal.

Similarly, Mr. Berhane Adhanom, forest inspector, said that reserve land in Adi-Keih is properly guarded and as a result various types of wildlife and birds are benefiting from such measures.
