Pregnant mothers called upon to deliver in health institutions

Pregnant mothers have been called upon to deliver in health institutions for their own safety and that of their offspring.

Asmara, 10 October 2011 – Pregnant mothers have been called upon to deliver in health institutions for their own safety and that of their offspring.

Dr. Kibreab Mehari, gynecology specialist at the National Orotta Referral Hospital,  said that although awareness regarding pre-and post-delivery care is growing, the number of mothers delivering in health institutions is not satisfactory. He emphasized the need for conducting extensive campaign to this end.

Pointing out that Eritrea is one of those countries that have registered achievement in reducing mother and child mortality rate, Dr. Kibreab indicated that the rate has dropped by 75% within the past 20 years. Still, he urged expectant mothers to continuously resort medical treatment so as to reduce mother and child death rate to the lowest level.

Besides, Dr. Kibreab called on the society at large and mothers in particular to actively participate in the work of the Ministry of Health.
