Groundnut seeds being cultivated in Anseba region

Groundnut seeds which are becoming of high demand in the market are being extensively cultivated in Anseba region, indicated Mr. Matewos Lukas, administrator of Libena administrative area, Hamelmalo sub-zone.
Hamelmalo, 17 October 2011 – Groundnut seeds which are becoming of high demand in the market are being extensively cultivated in Anseba region, indicated Mr. Matewos Lukas, administrator of Libena administrative area, Hamelmalo sub-zone.

He said that the seed cultivated in limited area in Libena has now expanded to other areas of the sub-zone, and that 60% of farm area has been put under cultivation of planted groundnuts which are in good condition.

Mr. Matewos further explained that the local inhabitants have become beneficiaries of modern irrigation farming thanks to the campaign conducted by the Hamelmalo College of Agriculture.

Mr. Hasen Seid, one of the inhabitants, stated that he was able to pay back his debt from the groundnut harvest, and that he has obtained over 34 quintals. The groundnut he planted over 6 hectares is also in good condition, he added.
