The inhabitants of the Central region said that instance of harmful customary practices is on the decline. Asmara, 7 February 2013 – The inhabitants of the Central region said that instance of harmful customary practices is on the decline. They made the remark at an event organized yesterday in Asmara city to mark the World No FGM Day. It was stated during the event that remarkable accomplishment has been registered to this end thanks to the endeavors exerted on the basis of Proclamation No. 158/2007 with a view to crystallizing the desired public opinion.

Mr. Berhane Negash, head of social service in the region, explained that integrated venture of government bodies was witnessed in the process. Dr. Tesfai Solomon, head of the Health Ministry’s branch in the region, on his part indicated that it would step up efforts in this regard and enhance collaboration with stakeholders.

Furthermore, Ms. Tekh’a Tesfamichael, head of the NUEW branch in the Central region, called on the citizenry to extend a helping hand towards promoting women’s overall wellbeing vis-à-vis their production capacity.
