Reports indicated that remarkable accomplishments have been registered as regards soil and water conservation in Emni-Haili and Tserona sub-zones on the basis of popular undertakings.

Mendefera, 29 April 2013 – Reports indicated that remarkable accomplishments have been registered as regards soil and water conservation in Emni-Haili and Tserona sub-zones on the basis of popular undertakings.

Accordingly, the inhabitants of Dirko Administrative area, Emni-Haili sub-zone, constructed terraces and water catchment walls around the dam within the locality, while EDF members carried out follow-up activities on flourished seedlings and trees and renovated the Martyrs  Cemetery in the locality.

Among Dirko inhabitants, Ms. Azeb Qaley and Mr. Idris Mohammed explained that the undertaking targets prevention of sedimentary deposit in the dam, in addition to its input in raising the level of harvest. They also expressed satisfaction with taking part in the community-led venture, and asserted that they would sustain their initiative as regards to follow-up of trees.

Meanwhile, the community-motivated scheme in Tserona sub-zone included preparation of farmland, construction of terraces and restoration of erosion-hit areas. Among the participants, Mr. Mohammed Ade, Abeba Tekle and Keire Mahmoud said that more gratifying accomplishments have been registered to this end over the past couple of years.
