Haikota, 29 April 2013 – The inhabitants of Haikota sub-zone said that Fiesko Agricultural Project has created considerable job opportunities. They further pointed out that they are engaged in various income-generating activities in connection with the ongoing irrigation farming activities around Fanko-Tsimue Dam.
Among the inhabitants, Ms. Amna Osman, Ms. Khedija Osman, Ms. Halima Mohammed and Ms. Zeineb Haron indicated that the dam has secured substantial water supply for humans and livestock, besides the fact that it has given impetus to irrigation farming and other activities in the area which was rather characterized by herding. “It has also been a cause for increased supply of various consumer goods and overall improvement of the community’s livelihood.
Mr. Hailezgi Habte, manager of the farm with about 1,500 employees, explained that the main beneficiaries of new jobs are the local inhabitants. He further disclosed that the farm’s Administration is striving to expand its scope to 3,000 hectares, giving rise to more employment opportunities for nationals from outside the locality.
