NUEW branch in Southern region implements various programs in a bid to improving the livelihood of members
The branch of the NUEW in the Southern region pointed out that has it implemented various programs in the course of the current year targeting improvement of livelihood on the part of members.
Mendefera, 24 December 2013 – The branch of the NUEW in the Southern region pointed out that has it implemented various programs in the course of the current year targeting improvement of livelihood on the part of members. It made the remark at an assessment meeting in Mendefera city, during which it was stated that the strategies applied sought enhancement of women’s organization in remote areas, besides raising the members’ financial capabilities and political awareness.
Ms. Aberash Habtai, Head of the branch office, disclosed that a number of members are striving to raise their income on the basis of resorting to a credit scheme worth more than 4 million Nkafa, and that a number of them could already witness improvement of livelihood. She further indicated that over 400 books were extended to female students with a view to promoting their learning enthusiasm, while several training courses pertaining to handcrafting were organized at the Training Center in Mendefera.
Accordingly, the branch office undertook extensive community sensitization activities in 12 sub-zones in collaboration with stakeholders focusing on women-related health issues such as FGM, communicable diseases and environmental hygiene. The outreach of the effective sensitization venture is rated to stand at 85,000 per the number of individual audiences targeted.
