Barentu, 17 May 2014 – Reports indicated that preparations that have been underway since last month with a view to marking the 23rd Independence Day anniversary with patriotic zeal in Gash-Barka have concluded.
Mr. Bereket Tekeste, Chairman of the Holidays Coordinating Committee in the region, disclosed that the inhabitants made all-round preparations involving cultural activities so as to give added fervor for the celebration of the momentous Day, and that some Area administrations are already started to celebrate.
He further indicated that a total of 14 sub-zonal Administrations would take part in the carnival that would be staged at regional level, while outdoor shows would be inaugurated along the main streets of Barentu on 20 May.
Accordingly, cultural shows are expected to witness participation of Cultural Troupes from the region and a number of EDF divisions, besides marching band and military parade, as well as student performances. The songs that would be presented at the official ceremony of the region have been selected, and community festivities are due to be conducted through higher enthusiasm.
