Restoration of river gorge underway in Dekemhare

The Administrator of Southern region, Mr. Efrem Gebrekirstos, has called for integrated efforts as regards finalizing the restoration process of a river gorge which has been causing mobility problem before the onset of the rainy season.

Dekemhare, 06 June 2014 – The Administrator of Southern region, Mr. Efrem Gebrekirstos, has called for integrated efforts as regards finalizing the restoration process of a river gorge which has been causing mobility problem before the onset of the rainy season. He made the call during an investigative tour to the city.

Mr. Simon Abraha, irrigation development expert in the region, indicated that adequate study has been made for the implementation of the 2-km gorge on the basis of constructing water catchment walls for prevention of soil erosion.

Accordingly, 50% of the process has been finalized, and there exists a popular plan for the city residents to plant seedlings and carrying on further soil and water conservation activities along the main tributaries of the river.
