At an assessment meeting which the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW) branch in Anseba region conducted recently, it was stated that encouraging outcome is being registered in endeavors towards improving women’s livelihood through enabling them become self-supporting.
Keren, 14 January 2015 – At an assessment meeting which the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW) branch in Anseba region conducted recently, it was stated that encouraging outcome is being registered in endeavors towards improving women’s livelihood through enabling them become self-supporting.
The branch office is working on priority basis as regards providing credit opportunity, organizing health-related promotional activities and ensuring women’s rights, among others. In this connection, over 1.3 million Nakfa credit has been distributed to the members.
Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Amna Hassen, head of the branch office, stated that the Union has been making the necessary effort with a view to doing away with the instances of harmful customary practices, thus resulting in heightened community awareness to this end. She also indicated that educational materials and financial support have been extended to female needy students, in addition to motivating students who demonstrate academic excellence.
The NUEW regional branch further indicated that more efforts would be exerted this year pertaining to reinforcement of organizational capacity of members, realizing set goals in Adult Education Program, alleviating economic problems women face, raising awareness in the health domain and ensuring women’s rights.
