The Asmara Public Library, in collaboration with partners, has introduced about 17,000 new books on Social and Natural Science, according to Mr. Ephrem Matewos, manager of the library. He explained that the newly introduced books that meet the needs of students up to college level deal with Computer Science, Engineering, Medicine, Political Science, Sports, Law, Economics and Fiction.
Mr. Ephrem went on to say that the objectives of the library focus on cultivating reading habit and supporting the nation’s curriculum, and that concreted action is being taken to this end. He further indicated that the Library is providing speedy internet access at fair price to assist individuals participating in distance-learning programs and undertaking research. In this respect, Mr. Ephrem indicated that the number of readers and members continues to grow with each passing day.
Vigorous endeavors are also underway to introduce digitalized mode of operation in the public library so that the readers may obtain information easily, he added.
