Residents of Massawa commemorated the 22nd anniversary of Operation Fenkil in three community tents and displayed various cultural and artistic programs that reflected the significance of the day. Massawa, 12 February 2012 – Residents of Massawa commemorated the 22nd anniversary of Operation Fenkil in three community tents and displayed various cultural and artistic programs that reflected the significance of the day.
In statements they gave to ERINA, the inhabitants said that Massawa residents conduct such community gatherings every year in memory of the historic Operation that heralded the end of colonization in Eritrea.
They pointed out that the commemoration of the event is a reminder to honour and further renew pledge to the gallant freedom fighters that gave their lives to liberate the city with reinforced spirit of determination and hard work. They also said that the rapid progress witnessed in Massawa over the span of its 22 years of independence is testimony to the development programs implemented thus far.
The inhabitants further pointed out that the fact that Operation Fenkil brings together nationals from both far and near every year is a reflection of the strong unity and harmony cherished by Eritreans.
